The 53rd Luncheon Meeting was held on September 24, 2026
The 53rd Luncheon Meeting took place on Thursday, September 24, 2026,
featuring a talk by Tareg Omer Mohammed, a Postdoctoral Researcher from the Ando Lab, and was chaired by Prof. Noriyuki Kodera.
Dr. Tareg is originally from Eritrea
He earned his B.Sc. in Clinical Laboratory Sciences from Asmara College of Health Sciences, Eritrea, where he subsequently served as a Graduate Assistant. He later obtained both his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Medical Sciences from Tohoku University, Japan.
Prior to joining NanoLSI in 2020, he worked as a Research Assistant at Tohoku Medical and Pharmaceutical University. His research interests encompass biomarkers, cancer cell biology, cellular mechanobiology, and single-molecule dynamics. Currently, his research at NanoLSI focuses on the real-time visualization of biomolecular processes using high-speed atomic force microscopy (HS-AFM).
In his talk, he introduced Eritrea and its capital, Asmara, while also sharing his family roots in Afabat. He presented aspects of Eritrea’s geography, architecture, cycling culture, food, and coffee traditions, as well as his own early life across eastern Sudan and Eritrea. He also described his academic journey from clinical laboratory science in Asmara to graduate studies at Tohoku University in Japan and his current research at WPI-NanoLSI.
He then shared how his research has progressed across biological scales, from circulating biomarkers and cellular mechanobiology to molecular dynamics using high-speed atomic force microscopy (HS-AFM), including his current work on the endosomal tethering protein EEA1.
The presentation was followed by an engaging Q&A session.
