Prof. Yasufumi Takahashi and Colleagues were awarded – Human Frontier Science Program 2022 –

Prof. Yasufumi Takahashi, Nano Life Science Institute of Kanazawa University was selected with his international collaborative research team for a Program Grant under the Human Frontier Science Program (HFSP) Award 2022. This is the second award received in the Institute since Prof. Toshio Ando in 2020.

The Human Frontier Science Program (HFSP) supports innovative, interdisciplinary, and highly original basic research on the complex mechanisms of living organisms. Themes range from molecular and cellular approaches to biological functions to systems neuroscience, including cognitive functions. The emphasis is on new collaborative research at the cutting edge of the life sciences, drawing on the expertise of scientists in other research fields (e.g., physics, mathematics, chemistry, computer science, and engineering).

Comments from the Awardee – Yasufumi Takahashi, Professor

I had heard that the HFSP grant a very narrow competition with many applicants from all over the world, so I was very surprised when I was notified that my project had been selected for the grant. It is a great honor for me to be selected for such a prestigious grant.

In the future, I will work with my collaborators to elucidate the relationship between structural changes in cells and the concentration of chemical substances by making full use of scanning ion conductance microscopy (SICM) and machine learning.

Awaded Research Grants:

Super-resolution multifunctional scanning ion conductance microscopy: tapping the cell’s energy grid

Research team member:

Laura Machesky, Professor, Institute of Cancer Science, Cancer Research UK Beatson Institute, Glasgow, UK

Atsuo Sasaki, Associate Professor, Dept. of Internal Medicine, University of Cincinnati, USA
